Ray Charles - Live at Montreux Jazz Festival

Live Music Television presents Ray Charles, Live at the 1997 Montreux Jazz Festival

Live Music Television is proud to present Ray Charles, a soul music pioneer.

Born in Georgia in 1930 he was one of the first performers to mix gospel, R&B and jazz to create a new form of black pop music that would come to be known as soul. His voice and delivery were strikingly different and instantly recognisable. He had his first hits in the early 1950's and was still hitting the charts into the 21st century. His death in June 2004 from liver disease was front page news around the world.

This concert was filmed at the Montreux Jazz Festival on July 19, 1997 and features Ray Charles and his orchestra, led by sax player Al Jackson, and of course The Raelettes.

Thank you to Eagle Rock Entertainment for making these videos available. Get the full concert at this link

Al Jarreau - Look To The Rainbow Album: Live In Europe - A Flashback to 1976

Finding these vintage 1976 live films of Al Jarreau is reason for celebration. These are gems.

Al Jarreau album cover to Look To The Rainbow: Live in Europe

The record was recorded and was shot live in Hamburg, Germany in 1976. The musicians featured are Tom Canning on keys, Jerome Rimson on bass guitar and Nigel Wilkinson on drums.

One of the most popular songs on the record was Jarreau's unique version of the Paul Desmond classic, Take 5, that was already famous as it recorded by The Dave Brubeck Quartet on their 1959 album Time Out. Jarreau's take on the song was a major departure, like a blast off to another planet. Be patient, the song does not really take off until the 2:20 point of the first video below. Enjoy!

To enjoy all the videos below, back to back without interruption, click the play button of the video below and choose the high-resolution & full screen options.  When the video ends, it will automatically be followed by the rest, and several more hours of excellent curated music videos if you choose to let it roll. Press forward to skip or the reverse button to return to previous songs. Exit full screen mode to pick a new video.

Esperanza Spalding - A True Pure Jazz Heartist

MusicTelevision.Com presents Esperanza Spalding

You may have already seen her on The Late Show with David Letterman and she has been in thousands of places between here and there, even playing for heads of state and President Obama. But in this big bad world, artists who travel that wide can still remain too far under the radar. This is just one more little venue for this inspired and gifted jazz bassist and vocalist.

Esperanza Spalding is a breath of fresh air. As a bassist myself, I appreciate any upright players who can sing and play upright at the same time. Esperanza is as sweet and beautiful as she is articulate with her vocals and jazz stylings, as you will see in this local CBS TV interview and performance on a show called The Second Cup Café. Enjoy!
