Ray Charles - Live at Montreux Jazz Festival

Live Music Television presents Ray Charles, Live at the 1997 Montreux Jazz Festival

Live Music Television is proud to present Ray Charles, a soul music pioneer.

Born in Georgia in 1930 he was one of the first performers to mix gospel, R&B and jazz to create a new form of black pop music that would come to be known as soul. His voice and delivery were strikingly different and instantly recognisable. He had his first hits in the early 1950's and was still hitting the charts into the 21st century. His death in June 2004 from liver disease was front page news around the world.

This concert was filmed at the Montreux Jazz Festival on July 19, 1997 and features Ray Charles and his orchestra, led by sax player Al Jackson, and of course The Raelettes.

Thank you to Eagle Rock Entertainment for making these videos available. Get the full concert at this link

Lianne La Havas - I Say A Little Prayer (Stellar Live Take)

Live Music Television presents the most beautiful Lianne La Havas and a Aretha channeling

Live Music Television is very proud to present one more great live performance from Lianne La Havas.

She covers the Burt Bacharach and Hal David penned song titled I Say A Little Prayer (For You) with brilliance. Dionne Warwick first recorded the song in 1966 and it became a very successful hit in 1967. Numerous luminaries including Aretha Franklin have covered the song and this take below by Lianne La Havas is up there in that league as one of the greatest takes ever in our humble opinion.

It was filmed live at Studio Brussel, a radio station in Belgium that consistently and beautifully captures in-studio performances of many great acts.

Jackie Bristow - Whistle Blowin' - Live

Live Music Television presents Jackie Bristow and a live film of her song titlted Whistle Blowin'
Jackie Bristow was recently the opening act in New Zealand for Bonnie Raitt
This is a tasty filmed live performance by the independent New Zealand recording artist named Jackie Bristow and her original song titled Whistle Blowin'. The song sounds like a real country hit in the old-school sense. There is strength, depth and a certain stillness that comes from artists like this one who have so diligently honed their craft.

Two Februaries ago, we featured the studio version and the official music video to Whistle Blowin' on our sister site MusicLoad. (Click here to see that). The song was track #1 on her album titled Shot of Gold.

She is backed by Mark Punch on electric guitar, Nick Gaffaney on percussion and Alison Wunderland on bass. Enjoy!

Jarle Bernhoft

The soulful recording artist and producer, Kelly Moneymaker, was where I found out about the fabulous Jarle Bernhoft this week. I feel he is one of the freshest, most organic and unmanufactured emerging musical artists I have heard this year.

A little research uncovered that "Bernhoft", as he is known, has been emerging for years and is signed to Universal Music Norge of Norway. Mike Finnigan, the legendary hammond player and keyboardist extraordinaire who recently did another world tour with Joe Cocker, informed me that Berhoft opened for several Joe Cocker shows in Europe recently.

Bernhoft is a self contained unit, a one man band, that relies on loops he lays down with his voice and with instruments as he goes. His soulful and deliberate croon is contagious and entertaining. Enjoy!

Bernhoft and his track entitled Cmon Talk from his most recent 2011 release.

Bernhoft and his track entitled Choices from a recent release

Berhoft and his unreleased track entitled Since I was a Little Kid

If you like Bernhoft's music, sign up at his page, Bernhoft.Org, where all can get some free downloads for at least a little while!

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird

This Lynyrd Skynyrd performance of Free Bird was shot on the BBC show Old Grey Whistle Test which that lasted from 1971 through 1987 on BBC. OGWT, as it was also known, was an influential Music Television program for it's time. The studio was only 32x22 feet which left little room for a set once the cameras and band were in.

This particular recording of Free Bird was filmed and aired in 1975.
