Charles Bradley - November 5th, 1948 - September 23rd, 2017

Live Music Television presents Charles Bradley and live filmed music performances

Live Music Television is sad to report that soul great Charles Bradley passed away on September 23, 2017.

In tribute, Live Music Television presents some tasty live performances by Charles Bradley that really capture his true essense.

Some of the best recorded live performances of Charles Bradley were filmed by the fabulous radio station, KEXP-FM in Seattle, Washington.

In the first two videos below, Charles Bradley is backed by The Menahan Street Band, live at Mellow Johnny's Bike Shop in Austin, Texas on March 17, 2011, during KEXP's broadcast at SXSW.

Charles Bradley with The Menahan Street Band - Why Is It So Hard (Live on KEXP)

Charles Bradley with The Menahan Street Band - The World (Is Going Up in Flames) (Live on KEXP)

Charles had a really hard life. Starting off young, he knew homelessness and hunger. At age 14, he was inspired by James Brown after seeing him perform live at The Apollo. Eventually, Charles Bradley was doing professional music gigs in a band called Black Velvet that was a James Brown tribute act.

Just below is a single camera live take of Charles Bradley performing as Black Velvet.

Just below is a video about Charles Bradley's life, in his own words.

Thank you to KEXP-FM, online at KEXP.Org, for posting the first two videos in the above post. The fabulous team that made these recordings happen are host Cheryl Waters, engineer Kevin Suggs, Cameras operators Jim Beckmann, Shelly Corbett, Scott Holpainen and Christopher Meister. Lianne La Havas - I Say A Little Prayer (Stellar Live Take)

Live Music Television presents the most beautiful Lianne La Havas and a Aretha channeling

Live Music Television is very proud to present one more great live performance from Lianne La Havas.

She covers the Burt Bacharach and Hal David penned song titled I Say A Little Prayer (For You) with brilliance. Dionne Warwick first recorded the song in 1966 and it became a very successful hit in 1967. Numerous luminaries including Aretha Franklin have covered the song and this take below by Lianne La Havas is up there in that league as one of the greatest takes ever in our humble opinion.

It was filmed live at Studio Brussel, a radio station in Belgium that consistently and beautifully captures in-studio performances of many great acts.

More from Gaby Moreno

LiveMusicTelevision.Com presents Gaby Moreno

Gaby Moreno played two recent shows in LA and New York to allow fans to preview songs from her upcoming September 2016 release of her next album titled Ilúsion. (NOTE: Since this article was originally posted, Ilusion has been released. See videos here)

I was lucky enough to hear about these shows and get tickets for her LA appearance, which was at a venue right on the edge of Downtown Los Angeles' Skid Row. As our Lyft driver got us to the venue, I flashed back almost 30 years when I noticed my old work space where I did music promotion out of at 5th & Towne. Back then I had wondered if Skid Row would ever change. But, the depth of hard times and sadness seems to be just as hard as it ever was, if not harder than it ever seemed, as we drove past piles of trash, tents on the sidewalk and homeless people aimlessly pushing shopping carts. A lot of them looking like they were jonesing. It doesn't seem to me that times have gotten better for the poorest of the poor in LA. In fact, it looks to be worse than ever! More focus is needed to help these people who have somehow landed in this situation.

Around the corner a few blocks away, it has changed. There is an Urth Caffe (a stellar boutique chain of coffee house/restaurants) sitting right next door to beautiful music venue known as Resident. The outdoor food and cocktail court at Resident provides a sweet spot to chat with friends, eat and drink before the show begins inside. This might just be the coolest small music venue in LA, just the right place to see this darling artist named Gaby Moreno.

Gaby's sang songs in English, Spanish and Spanglish. Her group was small with bass, drums, a guitarist and Gaby on vocals and guitar. Her voice is so unique, smokey with her own trademark soul that transcends or combines genres, that it's hard to describe or pigeon hole her as anything except as beautiful.

While there are no recordings available of the new record online yet, it is very well worth digging through her earlier works and live performances such as the recordings below and others we have featured on this network.

This first one is of Gaby sweetly performing in Spanish, the classic Mexican huapango-style song titled Cucurrucucú Paloma. Written about lovesickness, it was originally written by Tomás Méndez in 1954. The title is a reference to the sound of the dove calling.

Gaby Moreno - Cucurrucucú Paloma

The next song below is of Gaby singing one of my favorite songs of her's in English. It's a protest song that she wrote, which is perfect, because Gaby does and always has marched to the beat of her own drum. It's a call to not give in or sell out, keeping fire in the belly and not to let other people paint one blue. It's titled "Sing Me Life".

Jeff Beck with Tal Wilkenfeld (Live at Crossroads Guitar Festival)

LiveMusicTelevision.Com presents Jeff Beck and Tal Wilkenfeld - Photo by Mandy Hall

Live Music Television is proud to present a tasty live filmed performance of Jeff Beck and the awesome young female bassist Tal Wilkenfeld, along with keyboardist Jason Rebello and drummer Vinnie Colaiuta.

The performance took place in 2007 at Eric Clapton's semiannual Crossroads Guitar Festival to benefit the charity Clapton created that provides drug and alcohol rehabilitation to locals as well as visitors on the Island of Antigua. The centre is called Crossroads Antigua.

It was a big deal for many new fans who were blown away at noticing and hearing the playing of Wilkenfeld for their first time. She blew fresh air into the world of bass playing.

Cecilia Noel & The Wild Clams - A Queen of Funky Latin Salsa Jazz

LiveMusicTelevision.Com presents Cecilia Noel

I've been following Cecilia Noel since the mid 1990's when her ex-husband Tris Imboden (famous for drumming for Chicago and a great California surf inspired band known as Honk in his earliest years) saw me filming the China Club ProJam and asked me to shoot some live music concerts of his then wife when she had just been signed to Sony Music.

The A&R guy, Kenny Komisar, who signed Cecilia Noel to Sony was way ahead of his time. Komisar signed Cecilia just before the beginning of the Latin/Pop explosion that Ricky Martin and Jennifer Lopez were part of. The band that Cecilia Noel put together as Cecilia Noel & The Wild Clams was a magnificent undeniable organic cuban inflused latin flavor that killed.  I am talking real burning hot unmanufactured blazing funky assed latin music! The record label, at large, however, just did not get Cecilia Noel at that time, and accidentally let her go, releasing her from her recording contract. Just a couple of years later, that Latin scene exploded.

However, none of that bad timing ever got in the way of Cecilia's burning desire for the show to go on. She built a independent movement on her own. She worked hard, playing tons of shows has toured to every continent and numerous countries.

Always known for having the creme of the crop session musicians in her band, not to mention to sexy Wild Clam singers, Cecilia Noel has staked her claim as one of the truest Latin/Funk/Jazz Salsa Queens the world has ever seen. Look at the size of her band, and the quality of the artists and it's easy to calculate the amount of people power it takes to run such a tight ship. This is a great example of what real music from real musicians is all about! Enjoy!

10 year old R&B Crooner Nails It

LiveMusicTelevision.Com presents 10 year old soul singer Vicus Visser of South Africa

This 10 year old boy, in the video below, is from South Africa. He sings while playing an acoustic 6 string guitar which he treats as if it is a bass guitar. He plays and sings in a deliberate and precise way, showing that he understands R&B music as if he were a seasoned pro, nails the vocals with a sweet soul that would make Sam Cooke and Michael Jackson proud.

Since this was first posted to this network in December 2010, we finally learned the identity of the boy singing in the above video after he began gaining more notoriety. His name is Vicus Visser. Whilst his Facebook and Twitter page has not been updated lately and does not seem to be active, try his Facebook at Facebook.com/vicusjonathan.visser and a innactive band account at Twitter.com/v4muzik
