The raw talent of Bernhoft

MusicTelevision.Com presents Bernhoft

I found out about the fabulous Jarle Bernhoft three years ago. Thanks goes former Exposé vocalist Kelly Moneymaker for the introduction. Bernhoft is fresh, organic and unmanufactured. He has been honing his craft, touring the world and emerging for years.

When Bernhoft isn't just singing in front of a piano like in the first video, he becomes a self contained one man band, that relies on loops he lays down with his voice and with instruments as he goes as narrated in the 2nd and 3rd videos below. His soulful and deliberate croon is contagious and entertaining. Enjoy!

A little more love for Lady (the band)

MusicTelevision.Com presents Lady featuring Nicole Wray and Terri Walker
Lady features vocalists Nicole Wray and Terri Walker
Must give some love with one more plug for some excellent soul artists that made our year whole last year...

With a thick old school R&B sound living and making it in the here and now, soul divas ‎Terri Walker and Nicole Wray created a new duo that they call Lady.

Hopefully you too will love how the band and their label have made Lady's music and remixes available in WAV, MP3, CD and Vinyl LP's directly from Lady's page at Truth & Soul Records.  I personally love buying WAV files because they sound so much better than MP3 files, basically being the same quality as the CD without the burden the Disc. It's nice that the band and the label offer WAV as well as the VINYL :)

Blind Faith - Live at London's Hyde Park - June 7, 1969

MusicTelevision.Com presents Blind Faith
The Original Blind Faith Record Cover

The history of Blind Faith, that featured Steve WinwoodEric ClaptonGinger Baker and Rick Grech, is a quick story. The group only released one record in 1969, and the group's self titled record shot to #1 in the U.S. airplay charts in August 1969, achieving platinum sales status, also hit #1 on the U.K. airplay charts in September of that year and achieved Gold sales status there.

The original cover, featured above, was banned in some countries and created a bit of social outrage in some corners, which did not hurt sales and made it more collectable when the record labels made changes to circumvent the bans.

Below are a few clips of Blind Faith's debut when they performed at a free concert in London's Hyde Park on June 7, 1969.

Nina Simone - Revolution

Nina Simone on MusicTelevision.Com
Painting of Nina Simone by a fan named Paintedgrass
In a time when few artists and bands have anything meaningful to say with regard to bringing about revolutionary change, it does not hurt to flash back to actual changemakers and revolutionaries who would be raising hell if they were still here today.

Tasty live performance hosted by Seattle Washington's KEXP radio at an event they hosted in Austin during SXSW last year. This was filmed at Mellow Johnny's, a bike shop owned by Lance Armstrong in Austin.

Cuba Feliz (Musical Documentary)

Below is the French musical-documentary Cuba Feliz, directed by Karim Dridi. It was first released in 2000, but is definitely worth watching if you have not seen it yet. The film follows a 76 year-old Cuban musician known as El Gallo as he travels throughout his country to play music with everyone he can. The doc captured the life of this senior troubadour, and a unique glimpse of life in Cuba as he connects and bathes in Cuba's rich music culture. Runtime 1 hour 32 minutes.
